A Look Back: ACCET's History
ACCET was founded by Alagappa Chettiar, a kind person who wanted to help the Karaikudi area grow. He created a trust to bring higher education there.
The college first opened its doors on July 21, 1952. It offered three main engineering subjects: Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Back then, it was part of the University of Madras. The main building's foundation stone was laid by Rajendra Prasad, who was the President of India at the time, on February 19, 1953.
- 1966: The college became a government-run institution.
- 1969: A new course, Electronics and Communication Engineering, was added.
- 1983: A master's degree in Microwave and Optical Engineering began.
- 1988: The Master of Computer Application (M.C.A.) course started.
- 2001: A Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Computer Science and Engineering was introduced.
ACCET was even named the best engineering college in Tamil Nadu for 2006–07! The Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, honored the college's Principal for this achievement in 2008. Since 2012, the college has been connected with Anna University in Chennai.
Life at ACCET: Campus Facilities
ACCET has many facilities to make student life comfortable and fun.
Non-Resident Students Centre (NRSC)
The NRSC building opened in 1981 for students who don't live in the hostels. It has large dining halls and rooms for student groups. There are also a few guest rooms for visitors.
Hostel Life
The college provides separate hostels for boys and girls. These hostels are located around the campus. To keep students safe and prevent bullying, there are different hostels for students from each year of study. Watchmen are also available all day long.
Sports and Games
If you love sports, ACCET has a lot to offer! You can play outdoor games like cricket, hockey, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and tennis. For indoor fun, there's table tennis and chess. The college also has a 400-meter track for running and equipment for weightlifting. There's an indoor stadium and a gym too. Every year, the college holds sports events to encourage students to be active.
Cooperative Store
The college has a cooperative store where students can buy things they need. Every student automatically becomes a member when they join the college. There's also a cooperative thrift society that helps the college staff and teachers.
Medical Care
A small clinic is available on the hostel campus. It has a ward for students and staff who need to stay for a short time if they are unwell. A part-time doctor and a pharmacist work there on weekdays.
Auditorium
The college auditorium, called Dewan Bahadur Murugappa Hall, can seat 600 people. It has a big stage for cultural shows and other events.
Post Office
There's a post office right on the college campus. This makes it easy for students and staff to send and receive mail.

Student Life and Opportunities
Students at ACCET have many ways to get involved and prepare for their future.
Student Associations
There are various student groups and clubs on campus. These associations help students explore their interests beyond academics. Examples include fine arts associations and Tamil language groups.
Lateral Entry Counseling
ACCET is a special center for "lateral entry" admissions each year. This is for students who want to join the second year of B.E/BTech courses across Tamil Nadu. The college uses its own software, made by its students, to manage the whole process. This includes inviting applications, checking forms, making lists of eligible students, and assigning seats.
ACCET Alumni Network
The Old Students Association helps former students stay in touch with the college and each other. It used to be called ACCETOBA but is now known as ACCETOSA. This group helps current students by organizing a project contest called Thirann to boost their technical skills.
Job Placements
Many companies visit ACCET to interview students for jobs. The college helps students connect with industries. For example, in 2008, all Civil Engineering students from the 2004-08 batch got jobs through campus placements. The college has agreements with companies like "Flsmidth" and "Caritor." The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department also has agreements with companies like "VI Microsystem," "Enixs," and "Ifutura."
