Alan D'Ardis Erskine-Murray (born 31 December 1923, died 30 November 2017) was a Scottish nobleman. He held the title of the 14th Lord Elibank. About Alan D'Ardis Erskine-Murray
Alan D'Ardis Erskine-Murray was born on 31 December 1923. He was the oldest son of Robert Alan Erskine-Murray. He went to school at Bedford School. Later, he studied at Peterhouse, Cambridge, a famous university.
His Time in the Military
In May 1943, during the Second World War, he joined the army. He became a second lieutenant in the Royal Engineers. This part of the army builds things like bridges and roads. He served with them throughout the war.
Becoming a Lawyer and a Lord
After the war, he studied law. In 1949, he became a barrister. This is a type of lawyer who can argue cases in higher courts.
On 2 June 1973, he became the 14th Lord Elibank. This happened after the death of James Alastair Frederick Campbell Erskine-Murray, who was the 13th Lord Elibank. He also held another special title, the 11th titular Earl of Westminster. This title was part of the Jacobite Peerage, which was a system of titles given by the exiled Stuart royal family.
