Alana's Music Journey
Starting with Elektra Records
Alana Davis began her music career by signing with Elektra Records. This record label helped her release her first two albums. Her first album was called Blame It on Me, released in 1997. It was a big success! Time magazine even picked it as one of the top five albums of that year.
Her second album, Fortune Cookies, came out in 2001. This album had some cool production by a famous group called The Neptunes. Alana also made music videos for her songs "32 Flavors" and "Crazy."
Big Hit Song: "32 Flavors"
One of Alana's most popular songs was "32 Flavors." It became a radio hit from her first album, Blame It on Me. This song was actually a cover version of a track by another artist, Ani DiFranco.
Blame It on Me was very popular. It stayed on the Billboard Top 200 chart for seven weeks. The album sold over 240,000 copies in the United States. Another song from the album, "Murder," was even used by the famous rapper Jay-Z in one of his songs.
Moving to New Labels
After her time with Elektra, Alana made a guest appearance on the soundtrack for the movie The Mod Squad in 1999. Later, she signed a deal with SME Records. She released a single called "Carry On" with them. This song was even featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Sony Electronics!
Becoming an Independent Artist
In 2005, Alana decided to try something different. She wanted to have more control over her music. So, she started her own record label called Tigress Records. This meant she could release music independently, without a big company.
On her own label, she released her third album, Surrender Dorothy. This album included the song "Wide Open."
