Alanthus Grove, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Alanthus Grove is a small, unincorporated community located in the northwest part of Gentry County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is not a city or town with its own local government, but rather a group of homes and buildings.

You can find Alanthus Grove on Missouri Route B, about six miles north of the town of Stanberry. The Grand River flows nearby, just half a mile to the east.

A Look at Alanthus Grove's History

Alanthus Grove has a history that dates back many years. A post office was opened here in 1855, which means people in the community could send and receive mail right in their own area. This post office served the community for a long time, finally closing its doors in 1906.

The community likely got its name from a special type of tree called an ailanthus tree. There was probably a grove, or a small forest, of these trees near where the community first started. In 1925, records show that 104 people lived in Alanthus Grove.
