Albany is a small place in Ray County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a town that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it is managed by the county. Albany is also part of the bigger Kansas City metropolitan area.

A Look Back: The History of Albany

Albany was first planned and created in 1854. When a town is "laid out," it means its streets and building lots are drawn on a map. This helps people build houses and businesses in an organized way.

The community was probably named after Albany, New York. This is a big city and the capital of New York State.

For a while, Albany had another name: "Ada." A post office opened there in 1864. It was called the Ada post office. This post office helped people send and receive letters. It stayed open for about nine years, closing in 1873.
