Albert Matthew Kookesh, Jr. (born November 24, 1948 – died May 28, 2021) was an American politician from Alaska. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Kookesh served in the Alaska Senate from 2005 to 2013. Before that, he was in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1997 to 2005.
Albert Kookesh was a proud member of the Tlingit Nation. He belonged to the Eagle Tribe and the Teikweidí (Brown Bear) Clan. His family was also connected to the L'eeneidí (Dog Salmon) Clan. He passed away in Angoon, Alaska, at the age of 72.

Early Life and Education
Albert Kookesh was born in Juneau, Alaska. He went to college and earned a special law degree called a Juris Doctor. He got this degree from the University of Washington in 1976.
Career and Community Work
Besides being a politician, Albert Kookesh had many other jobs. He was a commercial fisherman, which means he caught fish to sell. He also owned and ran a lodge and a market.
He was very involved in his community and with Native Alaskan groups.
- He served on the board of directors for the Sealaska Corporation. This is a company owned by Native Alaskans.
- He was also a co-chair of the Alaska Federation of Natives. This is a large organization that works for the rights and well-being of Alaska Native people.
- Earlier in his career, he held important roles at Kootznoowoo Inc. These roles included Business Manager, Executive Vice President, and Acting President/CEO.
