Alberto V d'Este (born February 27, 1347 – died July 30, 1393) was an important ruler in Italy. He was the lord of Ferrara and Modena from 1388 until his death.

Who Was Alberto V d'Este?
Alberto V d'Este was a member of the powerful House of Este, a noble family that ruled over several cities in Italy for centuries. His father was Obizzo III d'Este, who had been the ruler of Ferrara before him.
Becoming a Ruler
Alberto began his journey in leadership alongside his brother, Niccolò II d'Este. They shared power in the House of Este starting in 1361. When his brother Niccolò passed away in 1388, Alberto became the sole ruler of both Ferrara and Modena. This made him a very important figure in the region.
Founding the University of Ferrara
One of Alberto V's most famous achievements was founding the University of Ferrara. He established this university in 1391. It became a significant center for learning and education in Italy.
Family Life
In 1391, Alberto married Giovanna de' Roberti. Sadly, she passed away in 1393. After her death, he married Isotta Albaresani. When Alberto V died in 1393, his son, Niccolò III d'Este, took over as the new ruler.
