About Alberto Arbasino

Alberto Arbasino was born in Voghera, a town in southwestern Lombardy, Italy. He studied law at the University of Milan. After finishing his studies, he became a journalist. He wrote for popular magazines like Il Mondo and the newspaper La Repubblica.

His Unique Writing Style

Arbasino was a key member of Gruppo 63, a group of Italian writers who wanted to try new and experimental ways of writing. He described himself as an expressionist writer. This means he focused on showing feelings and ideas rather than just reality.

His novel Super Eliogabalo (published in 1969) was very important to him. He called it his most surreal and expressionist book. He said the descriptions of places in the book were "dreamlike and delusional." Arbasino often updated and rewrote his books, releasing new versions over time.
