Aleana Young (pronounced A-leena) is a Canadian politician. She was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in 2020. She is a member of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party and represents the area of Regina South Albert.

What is an MLA?
An MLA stands for Member of the Legislative Assembly. MLAs are people elected by citizens to represent them in the provincial government. They work to make laws and decisions for their province.
Aleana Young's Career
Before becoming a politician, Aleana Young was involved in her community. She served on the public school board in Regina. She also owned a special cheese shop.
First Election to the Legislature
In the 2020 Saskatchewan general election, Aleana Young ran for a seat in the legislature. She was pregnant during her election campaign. Her daughter was born just one day before the election. Young won her election in the Regina University area. She defeated Tina Beaudry-Mellor, who was the MLA for that area before her.
Her Role in Government
After being elected, Aleana Young took on important roles. On November 4, 2020, she became a critic for several areas. These included Economy and Jobs, Immigration, and Trade. She also worked on Sask Builds, Central Services, SGI, and Sask Power. She also served as the deputy House Leader for her party.
As of July 2025, she is the Official Opposition Whip. This means she helps make sure members of her party vote together. She is also the Official Opposition critic for Jobs and Economy. Her other critic roles include Trade and Export Development, SaskPower, Energy and Resources, and Forestry.
Re-election in 2024
In the 2024 Saskatchewan general election, Aleana Young was re-elected. This time, she won in a new area called Regina South Albert.
