Alec grew up in the Doomadgee community. This area is in the Gulf of Carpentaria in Australia. His family has lived there for a very long time. He is from the Waanyi, Garawa, and Gangalidda tribes.

Alec is involved in something called native title. This means he helps his community claim back their traditional lands. He is also the chairman of the Waanyi PBC. PBC stands for Prescribed Body Corporate. This is a group that manages native title rights and interests for Indigenous people.

Alec Doomadgee has acted in many movies and TV shows. He often plays roles that show Indigenous Australian life and culture.

Early Acting Roles

In 2008, Alec was in a short film called Joonba. Later, he appeared in Benjamin Sniddlegrass and the Cauldron of Penguins. He also had a role in the TV series Redfern Now. In this show, he played Wesley in one episode. He came back to the series in another episode as a Koorioke Announcer.

Cleverman and Other Shows

Alec has also been a TV host. He hosted a show called Volumz from 2011 to 2012. This show was made by NITV, which is a TV channel for Indigenous Australians.

Boomerang Incident at the Airport

In 2015, something unusual happened to Alec at Brisbane Airport. He was trying to take his boomerangs onto a flight. Airport security stopped him. They told him his boomerangs were considered weapons.

Alec explained that the boomerangs were not weapons. He said they were important spiritual items from his culture. Even so, he was not allowed to take them on the plane. Later, the airline, Qantas, apologized to him for the misunderstanding.
