Aled Brew's Early Life
Aled Brew was born in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. His mother was Welsh, and his father was from Ghana. Aled grew up speaking the Welsh language in a town called Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen. His older brother, Nathan Brew, also played rugby professionally.
Aled's Club Rugby Journey
Aled Brew started his semi-professional rugby career playing for teams like Neath and Swansea RFC. When he was 17, he joined the Ospreys, a big regional team.
Playing for the Dragons
In the 2006-2007 season, Aled was loaned to the Newport Gwent Dragons. He had a great season there, scoring 65 points and 13 tries in 28 games. After this, he went back to the Ospreys for the 2007-2008 season. However, it was tough to get a regular spot because another famous winger, Shane Williams, was playing so well.
Moving to Other Welsh Teams
In May 2008, Aled signed with Cardiff Blues. He didn't play many games for them and was soon loaned out to Pontypridd RFC and then back to the Newport Gwent Dragons. The next season, he officially returned to the Dragons.
Playing in France and England
In February 2012, Aled decided to try playing rugby in France. He signed with Biarritz Olympique for the 2012-2013 season. After two seasons in France, he came back to the Newport Gwent Dragons in 2014.
Later, Aled moved to England to play for Bath in the Aviva Premiership. He first joined on a short-term deal and then signed a permanent contract in December 2016. He ended up playing four seasons for Bath.
Retirement from Rugby
In September 2020, Aled joined the Scarlets for a short time to help with injuries. He played just one match before announcing he was retiring from rugby in December 2020. When he retired, Aled held the record for the most tries scored for the Dragons, with 43 tries!
Aled's International Career for Wales
Aled Brew played for Wales at different age levels, including Under-16, Under-18, and Under-21 teams. He also played for the Wales Sevens team, which plays a faster, seven-a-side version of rugby.
Making His Senior Debut
Aled was called up to the senior Wales national rugby union team for the 2007 Six Nations Championship. He made his first senior appearance as a substitute against Ireland. He also played in a match against Australia in May 2007. Aled was considered for the 2007 Rugby World Cup squad but didn't make the final team.
Rugby Sevens Success
