Alejandro Finisterre (born Alexandre Campos Ramírez; May 6, 1919 – February 9, 2007) was a clever inventor from Spain. He is most famous for creating futbolín, which is a Spanish version of table football (also known as foosball). He was also a poet and a publisher.
Biography
Alexandre Campos Ramírez was born in 1919 in Fisterra, Spain. His father worked as a radio-telegraphist at the local lighthouse.
In November 1936, when Madrid was bombed during a war, Alejandro was injured. While he was recovering in a hospital in Barcelona, he had a brilliant idea. He noticed that many of his friends and fellow patients were also injured. They could no longer play outdoor sports like football.
This made him think: what if they could still play football, but indoors? That's when he came up with the idea for a table game. This game would let people play football using small figures on a table. He called his invention futbolín.
Alejandro Finisterre officially protected his invention by getting a patent for it in Barcelona in 1937. He also patented another useful invention: a foot-pedal that helps musicians turn the pages of their music scores without using their hands.
