Alessandra Lunardi facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Alessandra Lunardi, born in Italy in 1958, is a well-known mathematician. She specializes in a field called mathematical analysis. This area of math uses tools like calculus to solve problems. She is currently a professor at the University of Parma. Professor Lunardi is especially interested in complex math challenges. These include Kolmogorov equations and free boundary problems.

Her Journey in Mathematics

Alessandra Lunardi began her studies at the University of Pisa. She finished her first degree in 1980. Then, she earned her Ph.D. in 1983 from the same university. Her Ph.D. project was about solving difficult equations. Her supervisor, Giuseppe Da Prato, guided her work.

After her studies, she worked as a researcher at the University of Pisa. This was from 1984 to 1987. In 1987, she became a full professor at the University of Cagliari. Later, in 1994, she moved to the University of Parma. She has been teaching and researching there ever since.

Important Contributions to Math

Professor Lunardi has written several important math books. One of her books is called Analytic semigroups and optimal regularity in parabolic problems. It was first published in 1995. Another key book is Interpolation theory. This book has been updated several times.

She also helped write a book with other mathematicians. This book is titled Functional Analytic Methods for Evolution Equations. It was published in 2004.

Besides writing books, Alessandra Lunardi helps lead a math journal. She is one of the main editors for Nonlinear Differential Equations and Applications (NoDEA). She also served as the editor-in-chief for Rivista di Matematica della Università di Parma. This was from 2002 to 2008.

Awards and Honors

Alessandra Lunardi has received special recognition for her work. In 1987, she won the Bartolozzi Prize. This award comes from the Italian Mathematical Union. It is given to young Italian mathematicians.

In 2017, she received another important award. She won the Lucio & Wanda Amerio Gold Medal Prize [it]. This prize is from the Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere. It honors her outstanding contributions to mathematics.
