Alexander ALX200 facts for kids
The Alexander ALX200 was a special type of bus body built by a company called Alexander. It was made between 1996 and 2001. This body was designed for low-floor buses. Low-floor buses make it easier for everyone, including people with strollers or wheelchairs, to get on and off.
This bus body was mostly used on two main types of bus frames, called chassis: the Dennis Dart SLF and the Volvo B6LE.
What is a Bus Body?
Think of a bus like a car. A car has an engine and wheels (the chassis), and then a main part where people sit (the body). For buses, sometimes the chassis and the body are made by different companies. The ALX200 was just the "body" part.
Why Low-Floor Buses?
Before low-floor buses, many buses had steps to get inside. This could be hard for some people. Low-floor buses have a flat floor from the front door to at least the middle of the bus. This design makes it much easier for:
- People using wheelchairs
- Parents with baby strollers
- Elderly people
- Anyone carrying heavy bags
The ALX200 body helped create these more accessible buses.
Where Could You See Them?
The Alexander ALX200 was a popular bus body in the United Kingdom. Many bus companies used them for their local routes. You might have seen them in towns and cities, carrying passengers every day. They were known for their simple, practical design.
