Alexander Elphinstone, 2nd Lord Elphinstone facts for kids

Alexander Elphinstone, 2nd Lord Elphinstone (born 1511, died 1547) was an important Scottish nobleman. He owned a lot of land and held a special title, "Lord Elphinstone."
Alexander was the son of Alexander Elphinstone, who was the 1st Lord Elphinstone. His mother was Elizabeth Barlow, an English lady who worked for Margaret Tudor, the Queen of Scotland.
Alexander became the Lord Elphinstone when he was very young. His father sadly died in a big battle called the Battle of Flodden in September 1513. This meant young Alexander took over the family title and lands.
Lord Elphinstone himself died from injuries he got during another major battle. This was the Battle of Pinkie, which happened in September 1547.
His Family Life
Alexander Elphinstone married a woman named Katharine Erskine. She was the daughter of John Erskine, who was the 5th Lord Erskine. Together, Alexander and Katharine had several children:
- Robert Elphinstone, 3rd Lord Elphinstone - He became the next Lord Elphinstone after his father.
- Michael Elphinstone (1544-1625) - He worked for James VI of Scotland, who later became King of both Scotland and England.
- Elizabeth Elphinstone - She married David Somerville, who lived at Plean Castle.
- Isobel Elphinstone - She married John Hamilton of Haggs.
- Margaret Elphinstone - She married John Livingstone, a younger member of the family from Dunipace.
- Margery Elphinstone - She married Robert Drummond of Carnock.
