Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Alexandra Duel-Hallen is a smart professor who teaches about electrical and computer engineering at North Carolina State University. She is well-known for her important work on wireless networks. This means she studies how things like your phone, Wi-Fi, and other wireless devices connect and share information.

Her Education Journey

Alexandra Duel-Hallen started her higher education at Case Western Reserve University. She graduated in 1982 with two main subjects: mathematics and computer science.

After that, she continued her studies. She earned a master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1983. Then, she completed her highest degree, a Ph.D., at Cornell University in 1987. Her Ph.D. project was about special computer programs called Detection Algorithms for Intersymbol Interference Channels. These programs help wireless systems understand signals better, even when there's a lot of interference. Her professor, Chris Heegard, helped her with this important research.

Special Recognition

Alexandra Duel-Hallen has received some big honors for her work.

  • She was named an ISI Highly Cited researcher. This means that many other scientists and engineers have used and referred to her research in their own work. It shows that her ideas are very important and helpful to others in her field.
  • In 2011, she was chosen to be an IEEE Fellow. This is a very high honor given by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). They recognized her for her valuable contributions to making wireless communication better and clearer.
