Alexis Okeowo is an American journalist. She is a staff writer for The New Yorker magazine. She also wrote a book called A Moonless, Starless Sky: Ordinary Women and Men Fighting Extremism in Africa. This book tells stories of everyday people who bravely stand up against difficult situations in Africa.

Alexis Okeowo grew up in Alabama, USA. Her parents came from Nigeria. She went to Princeton University and finished her studies in 2006.

From 2006 to 2007, Alexis worked in Uganda. She was part of a special program called Princeton in Africa Fellow. She worked at the New Vision newspaper there. In 2012, she received another special award. This award helped her write about important human rights issues in Africa.

Writing for The New Yorker

Alexis became a writer for The New Yorker magazine in 2015. She is known for her deep and brave reporting. Her book, A Moonless, Starless Sky, came out in 2017. It tells stories of everyday people in Africa. These people show great courage by standing up for what is right. Many people liked her book.

The Christian Science Monitor newspaper praised Alexis. They called her one of the best foreign reporters at The New Yorker. They said she takes risks to tell important stories. She believes all stories deserve to be told. This is especially true for stories that need a lot of courage to find.
