Alfred de Bathe Brandon (born 12 December 1854 – died 30 July 1938) was an important person in Wellington, New Zealand. He was the Mayor of Wellington in 1894. His father, also named Alfred Brandon, was a Member of Parliament.

Early Life and Education
Alfred de Bathe Brandon was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He was one of the very first students at Wellington College. This school opened its doors in 1867.
In 1872, Alfred won a special scholarship. This allowed him to study at the University of New Zealand. Later, in 1875, he traveled to England. He studied at Trinity Hall, Cambridge University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1878.
After his studies, he became a lawyer. He was allowed to practice law in England. When he came back to New Zealand, he also became a lawyer there. He worked as a barrister and solicitor in the Supreme Court.
Career and Public Service
Alfred joined his father's law firm. Over time, he became a senior partner. The firm was known as Brandon, Ward, Hislop, and Powles. He also became the President of the Wellington District Law Society. This group helps lawyers in the area.
He was also involved in business. In 1888, he became a Director of the Australian Mutual Provident Society. This was a big insurance company. He later became its Deputy Chairman in 1903. In 1918, he became the Chairman. He held this important role until he retired in 1934. His father had also been a director of this company.
Alfred was a long-time member of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. He joined this group in 1872. He was on its main committee for 11 years. He was also the President three times: in 1882, 1897, and 1898. In 1929, he was made a life member, which is a special honor. He also served on the board of the Gear Meat Preserving and Freezing Company. He retired from this role in 1935 due to poor health.
Political Roles
Alfred de Bathe Brandon was active in local government. In 1886, he was elected as a City Councillor. He represented the Thorndon Ward in Wellington. He served as a Councillor until 1891.
In 1894, he became the Mayor of Wellington. This was a very important job for the city. During the same year, he was also a member of the Wellington Harbour Board. This board managed the city's port and harbor.
Family Life
Alfred de Bathe Brandon married Louisa Kebbell in 1879. Louisa was the daughter of Thomas Kebbell, an early settler in Wellington. Alfred and Louisa had six children together. They had three sons and three daughters.
One of his sons was also named Alfred de Bathe Brandon. This son became a well-known lawyer and also an aviator (someone who flies airplanes).
Later Life
Alfred de Bathe Brandon passed away in Wellington on 30 July 1938. He was 83 years old.
