Alfredo Paolo Dumlao Vargas III (born October 24, 1979), known as Alfred Vargas, is a Filipino politician and actor. He is currently a councilor in Quezon City for the 5th district. He started this role in 2022.
Before this, he was a city councilor for the 2nd district from 2010 to 2013. He also served as a representative for the 5th district from 2013 to 2022. As an actor, he is famous for playing Aquil and Amarro in the Encantadia TV shows.

About Alfred Vargas: His Life and Work
Alfred Vargas was born on October 24, 1979, in Quezon City. His parents are Alfredo "Freddieboy" Vargas, Jr. and Atty. Susana Dumlao-Vargas.
His Education Journey
He studied at Ateneo de Manila University and earned a degree in Management Economics. This degree helps people understand how businesses and money work. Later, he went to the University of the Philippines Diliman. There, he got a master's degree in Public Administration. This degree teaches how to manage government and public services.
Starting as an Actor
Alfred Vargas began his acting career with ABS-CBN Star Magic. This is a special workshop that helps new actors. His first TV role was in the drama Pangako Sa 'Yo. He had acted in theater plays even before he joined TV. He was also the lead singer of his band, Privado.
He continued acting even while working in politics. For example, he worked on the GMA show Kambal, Karibal.
His Family Life
Alfred Vargas married Yasmine Espiritu in 2010. They have four children together.

Alfred Vargas started his political career in 2010. He was elected as a city councilor for Quezon City's 2nd District. He received the second-highest number of votes in that election.
In 2017, he changed political parties. He moved from the Liberal Party to PDP–Laban. This was the ruling party at the time. In 2019, he was reelected as a representative. He won under the local group called Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
Laws He Helped Pass
As a representative, Alfred Vargas helped create and pass several important laws. These are called Republic Acts. Some of these laws include:
- RA 10931: Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act - This law helps make college education more affordable for students.
- RA 10645: PhilHealth coverage for all senior citizens - This law makes sure that all older people have health insurance.
- RA 10747: Rare Diseases Act of the Philippines - This law helps people who have rare diseases get the care they need.
He also works to help people with disabilities and cancer patients. He also supports ideas to make traffic better, like using "Point-to-Point" (P2P) travel methods.
Switching Roles
He could not run for representative again because of term limits. So, in 2022, he ran for city councilor instead. His brother, Patrick Michael Vargas, ran for representative. They essentially switched their political roles.
