Alfriston is a small suburb located in Auckland, New Zealand. Before November 2010, it was managed by the Papakura District Council. Now, it's part of the larger Auckland city area. The suburb is in the Manurewa-Papakura ward, which is one of the thirteen main parts of the Auckland Council.
The town was first settled in the 1840s. It was originally called Papakura Valley. Later, its name was changed to Alfriston. This new name came from Alfriston, Sussex, England. One of the first people to settle here, Dr. George Edward Bodle, was from there. The name "Alfriston" means "Aelfric's village."
