History of Alhóndiga
Alhóndiga has a long and interesting history. It was one of the first places where the Knights Hospitaller settled. These were a group of knights who helped people and protected travelers. They were active south of the Sistema Central mountain range.
Early Beginnings
In the year 1170, Alhóndiga was given a special set of laws. These laws were called a fuero. A fuero was like a special charter that gave a town certain rights and freedoms. This was a big deal for the people living there.
At the same time, Alhóndiga was given to the Order of St. John. This is another name for the Knights Hospitaller. This event changed Alhóndiga's connection to the nearby town of Zorita. It became more independent.
