Ali al-Hajvery facts for kids
Hazrat Abul Hassan Ali Hajvery, often called Daata Ganj Bakhsh, was a very important Sufi mystic and scholar from the 11th century. He came from Afghanistan. His work helped spread Islam in South Asia. He also encouraged a more open and accepting society in the region.
His Early Life and Journey
Hazrat Ali Hajvery was born around the year 990 AD. His birthplace was near a city called Ghazni in Afghanistan. This was during the time of the Ghaznavid Kingdom. Later, in 1077 AD, he moved to Hindustan, which is now India. He settled in the city of Lahore, which is now in Punjab (Pakistan).
His Important Writings
His most famous book is called Revelation of the Veiled. In Persian, its name is Kashf Al Mahjub. This book was written in the Persian language. It is one of the first and most respected books about Sufism. In this book, he discussed many Sufi ideas from the past.
His Lasting Legacy
Al-Hajvery was buried in a famous tomb in Lahore. This tomb is surrounded by a large marble courtyard. There is also a mosque and other buildings there. It is the most visited shrine in that old city. It is also one of the most famous in Pakistan and the whole region.
He is known as the Patron Saint of Lahore. His name is well-known in every home there. People from far away places visit his tomb. People of all different religions come to pay their respects.
Along with other important saints like Moin-ud-din Chishti, Farid-ud-din Ganj Shakar, Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, and Jalal-u-din Surkh Bukhari, he is seen as one of the Panj Peer. This means "Five Sages" or "Five Holy Ones". These five saints are believed to have special spiritual power over South Asia. Many people ask these five saints for help.
