Alicia Catherine Mant was born on July 15, 1788. Her birthplace was Southampton, England. Her father, Richard Mant, was a school headmaster. He also worked as a church rector. Alicia was the youngest of nine children. One of her brothers, Richard Mant, became a bishop later on.
Her Writing Career
Alicia Catherine Mant wrote many books. She also created at least one game. Her stories were very popular in her time. They often taught children about good morals and values.
In 1835, she married Reverend James Russell Phillott. He was fourteen years younger than her.
Later Life and Legacy
Alicia Catherine Mant passed away on February 26, 1869. She died in Ballymoney, County Antrim. She and her husband are buried there. Even today, her stories are still found in collections of children's tales.
