Species:
leptomeria

Aliciella leptomeria is a small flowering plant. It is also known as the sand gilia or Great Basin gilia. This plant belongs to the phlox family. You can find it growing in the Western United States. It likes many different places, including the sagebrush areas of the Great Basin and the Mojave Desert.

What Does Sand Gilia Look Like?

This plant is a small herb. It has a thin stem that branches out. The stem can grow up to about 23 centimeters (about 9 inches) tall. It feels a bit sticky because it is covered in tiny, glandular hairs.

Leaves and Flowers

The sand gilia has several leaves at its base. These leaves form a circle close to the ground. They are 1 to 6 centimeters long and have deep cuts or lobes. This means they look like they have several parts.

Smaller leaves grow along the stem. These upper leaves are usually not lobed.

The plant's flowers grow in clusters of one to three. Each flower is small, about half a centimeter wide. It has a very thin tube leading to the petals. The petals are mostly white with purple stains. The center of the flower is yellowish, and the tube part is purple.
