Her Journey in Pageants
Winning Miss Russia
In 2019, Alina Sanko represented her hometown, Azov, in the Miss Russia 2019 contest. She won the title, becoming the most beautiful woman in Russia for that year. She took over the title from the previous winner, Yulia Polyachikhina. The second-place winners were Arina Verina and Ralina Arabova. As part of her prize, Alina received a brand new car. She also won 3 million Russian rubles, which is a lot of money!
Competing Internationally
As Miss Russia, Alina had the chance to represent her country on the world stage. She was supposed to compete in both Miss World 2019 and Miss Universe 2019. However, the dates for these two big competitions were too close together. Because of this, she could only compete in Miss World.
Russia decided not to send a contestant to Miss Universe that year. This was because the organizers announced the date and place of the competition very late. It would have been hard to find another person to replace Alina. It also would have been difficult to get a special travel document, called an American visa, in time.
Later, in March 2021, it was confirmed that Alina Sanko would represent Russia at Miss Universe 2020. This competition was held later than usual due to global events.
