Aline, Idaho facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Aline was an early settlement in what is now Teton County, Idaho. It was founded in 1888 by members of the Latter-day Saints church. For a while, it was an important town in the area. However, by 1901, another town called Driggs, Idaho grew much larger. Aline then became less important and eventually almost disappeared.

What Was Aline?

Aline was the very first community started by Latter-day Saints in the area we now call Teton County, Idaho. It was established in the year 1888. This settlement played a key role in the early history of the region.

How Aline Started

In the late 1800s, many people were moving to new areas to build communities. Aline was one such place. It was founded by pioneers who were members of the Latter-day Saints faith. They chose this spot in 1888 to create a new home and community.

Why Aline Disappeared

Aline was an active settlement for about 13 years. But by 1901, a nearby town named Driggs, Idaho began to grow much faster. Driggs became the main center for the area. As Driggs grew, Aline slowly lost its importance. Over time, it became less populated and eventually almost vanished. This is how some old towns become what we call "ghost towns."
