Alise Rose Willoughby (born January 17, 1991), whose maiden name was Post, is an American professional BMX racing rider. She has been racing bikes since 2002. Many people know her by her cool nickname, "The Beast."
Alise Willoughby's BMX Career
Alise started her racing journey at a young age. Before BMX, she was a state-champion gymnast. She began racing bikes at six years old after watching her older brothers compete.
Turning Professional
Alise became a professional BMX racer in 2006 when she was just 15. Her first big professional result was a third-place finish at the American Bicycle Association (ABA) Winter Nationals in April. Just one month later, she won her first professional race at the ABA Super Nationals.
She was voted "Rookie Pro of the Year" by BMXer magazine readers in 2006. This was a big deal because she was the first girl to win this award. She also became the youngest female to hold the National No.1 Pro Women's title. Alise was one of the youngest BMX racers ever to turn pro and win a professional title.
Olympic Dreams and Challenges
In 2008, BMX racing became an Olympic sport. However, Alise was only 17, and the age rule meant she had to be at least 19 to compete. This meant she couldn't join the first Olympic BMX race.
Alise finally made her Olympic debut at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She had to recover from a knee injury and surgery before this. She finished 12th after a crash in the semi-final race.
At the 2020 Summer Olympics (which happened in 2021), Alise had another crash. This meant she did not make it to the final race.
