The All Saints Anglican Church building in Dominion City, Manitoba, is a special historic place. It was built way back in 1879. Today, it's not a church anymore, but a museum called the Franklin Museum. This building shows a cool style of architecture called Carpenter Gothic.

What is Carpenter Gothic Style?

The All Saints building is a great example of the Carpenter Gothic style. This means it looks a bit like grand stone Gothic churches, but it's made from wood. Builders used wood to create fancy details like steep roofs and pointed windows. These details make the building look elegant and unique.

Early Days as a Methodist Church

When the building was first built in 1879, it was an Episcopal Methodist church. It had a very steep roof and tall, narrow windows called lancet windows. These features were simple but showed the start of the Carpenter Gothic style.

Becoming an Anglican Church

In 1908, the Anglican Parish of Dominion City bought the church building. They moved it to its current spot at 48 Centennial Drive. When they moved it, they also added more detailed decorations. These new parts made it look even more like the beautiful Carpenter Gothic churches you might see.

From Church to Museum

The All Saints building served as an Anglican church for many years. However, it closed its doors as a church in the 1960s. In 1985, a group called the Franklin Crafts Club bought the building. They used it for their activities.

Since 1992, this historic building has been home to the Franklin Museum. It helps people learn about the history of the Rural Municipality of Franklin and the surrounding area.

A Protected Heritage Site

Because of its history and unique style, All Saints is an important building. On June 8, 1993, the Rural Municipality of Franklin officially named it a municipal heritage site. This means it's protected and recognized for its historical value. It's known as heritage site No. M0093.
