All Souls Chapel was a large church building. It stood in Cardiff Docks, a busy port area in Wales. The chapel was built to help sailors who visited the docks. It was taken down in the 1950s. Today, nothing of the original chapel remains.

History of All Souls Chapel

Before All Souls Chapel was built, a ship called HMS Thisbe served as a floating church. From 1863, this ship was moored at Cardiff's West Dock. It was run by a group called the Mission to Seamen. This group helped sailors with their spiritual needs.

In 1892, All Souls Chapel replaced the old ship. The Mission to Seamen continued to run the new chapel. It was a very active place for many years. Some people even called it a church.

However, after World War II, things changed in Cardiff. The city's docks became less busy. This meant fewer ships and sailors came to the port. Because of this, All Souls Chapel closed its doors in 1952. It was demolished soon after. The area around it was completely rebuilt later on.

The Chapel's Pulpit

Even though the chapel was demolished, one important part was saved. This was the pulpit. A pulpit is a raised stand where a speaker, like a priest, stands to give a sermon.

The pulpit from All Souls Chapel was moved. It is now located in St Edward's Church, Roath, another church in Cardiff. It was installed there in 1953. The family of Rev. Ken Martin gave it as a gift. He was an assistant priest at St Edward's for many years.
