Early Life and School
Allan Warren grew up in London after World War II with his mother. He went to a special acting school called Terry's Juveniles, which was located at the Drury Lane Theatre.
While at this school, he went to many auditions and got different jobs. One job was being a child presenter on a show called "The Five O'clock Club." This show helped him meet people like Marc Bolan, who was a musician. Later, Marc Bolan even hired Allan Warren to be his first manager.
Allan Warren's Career
Allan Warren started his career as a photographer when he was 20 years old. At that time, he was also acting in a play called Forty Years On with a famous actor named John Gielgud. The play was shown in the West End at the Apollo Theatre.
Around this time, Warren bought his first camera. He started taking pictures of the other actors he worked with. His first big photography job was in 1969. His friend Mickey Deans asked him to take pictures at his wedding to the famous singer Judy Garland. This was the start of Warren's work as a professional photographer.
Taking Pictures of Famous People
After the wedding, Allan Warren became a full-time photographer. He took portraits of many well-known people. These included actors, writers, musicians, politicians, and members of the British royal family.
In the early 1980s, Warren decided to photograph all 30 British dukes. He also helped set up a charity called the Duke's Trust with Angus Montagu, 12th Duke of Manchester. This charity helps children who are in need.
Allan Warren has shared many of his photographs online on a website called Wikimedia Commons. Many of these pictures are now used on Wikipedia pages, including the page about Allan Warren himself!
Other Creative Work
Allan Warren held his first photo exhibition in 1980. It was called The Last Picture Show and was shown at the Photographic Training Centre's Night Gallery.
In the early 1990s, Warren also started writing plays. One of his plays, The Lady of Phillimore Walk, was directed by Frank Dunlop. Some critics even compared it to a famous thriller play called Sleuth. The play was performed in the United States.
The Hankybreathe Invention
Allan Warren also invented something called the Hankybreathe. It's a special handkerchief that has a carbon filter. When you breathe through it, the filter helps clean the air, removing bad stuff from car exhaust. The invention is meant to be dabbed with eucalyptus oil. Warren created it because he has asthma and wanted a way to breathe cleaner air in busy London.
