Allen Glover Lanier (born June 25, 1946 – died August 14, 2013) was an American musician. He was known for playing keyboards and rhythm guitar. Allen was one of the first members of the famous rock band Blue Öyster Cult.

Allen Lanier also wrote many songs for Blue Öyster Cult. Some of his songs include "True Confessions" and "In Thee". Besides his work with Blue Öyster Cult, he also helped other musicians. He played music with artists like Patti Smith and The Clash. For several years in the 1970s, he lived with Patti Smith in Manhattan.

Allen's Music Journey

Allen first started playing with the band in 1967. Back then, the band was called Soft White Underbelly. He left the group in 1985 for a short time. Another musician named Tommy Zvoncheck took his place.

But Allen came back to the band in 1987. He toured with them almost all the time until late 2006. In 2007, it seemed Allen retired from music. Blue Öyster Cult updated their band photo without him. They also mentioned that Richie Castellano took over his role.

Allen Lanier joined Blue Öyster Cult one last time. This was for their 40th anniversary concert. It happened in New York in November 2012. This was his final performance with the band. Blue Öyster Cult announced that Allen Lanier passed away on August 14, 2013.
