Allen Murphy (born July 15, 1952) is a retired American professional basketball player. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama. Murphy was a guard who played the shooting guard position. He was 6 feet 4½ inches (1.95 meters) tall and weighed 190 pounds (86 kg). He played college basketball for the University of Louisville Cardinals. He was part of their team that reached the Final Four in 1975. After college, he played for a short time with the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.
Playing in the NBA
Allen Murphy was chosen by the Phoenix Suns in the 1975 NBA draft. He was picked in the second round. Even though the Suns drafted him, he never played a game for their team.
Playing for the Lakers
Murphy did play a few games for the Los Angeles Lakers. This was during the 1976-77 NBA season. Before joining the Lakers, he also played in another league called the American Basketball Association (ABA). He played 29 games for the Kentucky Colonels during the 1975–76 season.
