The Allocasuarina zephyrea, also known as the western scrub sheoak, is a type of shrub that grows naturally in Tasmania, Australia. It belongs to a group of plants called Allocasuarina.

What is the Western Scrub Sheoak?
The western scrub sheoak is a shrub, which means it's a woody plant smaller than a tree. It usually grows to be about 0.5 to 2 meters (1.6 to 6.6 feet) tall.
Its Flowers and Fruit
This plant is special because it can flower all year round! Its flowers are small and red, looking a bit like tiny red tufts. After the flowers, the plant grows small, hard, nut-like fruits.
Where Does it Grow?
The western scrub sheoak likes to grow in sandy soils. You can often find it near the coast or in areas called "heathlands" across Tasmania. It grows from Burnie in the north, through the Central Highlands, all the way to the Huon Valley in the south.
How Was it Discovered?
This plant was first officially described and named by a botanist (a scientist who studies plants) named Lawrence Alexander Sidney Johnson. He wrote about it in 1989 in a book called Casuarinaceae. Flora of Australia.
