A Look Back: The Pump House Story
Why Was It Built?
Before 1924, the town of Allouez did not have its own water department. To ensure everyone had clean, reliable water, the town created a water department in 1924. The very next year, in 1925, construction began on the Allouez Pump House. This building was essential for moving water to homes and businesses.
Changes Over Time
The original pump house was designed by McMahon & Clark Engineering Company. It features a cool style called Mediterranean Revival. This style often includes features like red tile roofs and stucco walls, making buildings look like they belong in sunny Mediterranean countries. Later, in 1940, a garage was added to the pump house. This addition was built by H.J. Selmer Construction Company.
A Historic Landmark
The Allouez Pump House is recognized as an important part of history. On March 15, 2016, it was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is a special place that deserves to be protected and remembered for its historical value.
