Aloja is a small town in Latvia. It is located in the Limbaži Municipality in the Vidzeme region. This town is quite close to the border with Estonia.

Aloja was first written about in history books way back in 1449. It started to grow quickly after some big changes in farming laws in Latvia around 1920. In 1925, Aloja officially became a village. It also became an important center for the local area.

A new railway line was built through Aloja in 1936. This line connected Rīga, the capital city, to Rūjiena. This helped Aloja grow even more. In 1992, Aloja was given the special status of a town. For a while, from 2009 to 2021, Aloja was the main administrative center for the larger Aloja Municipality.
