Alonso José Puerta Gutiérrez was a Spanish politician. He was born on March 24, 1944, in Avilés, a city in Spain. He spent many years working in politics, representing people in different government roles.

Early Political Life

Alonso Puerta first joined the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). This is one of the main political parties in Spain. In 1977, he was elected to the Spanish Congress of Deputies. This is like the main parliament where laws are made. He represented the city of Madrid.

From 1977 to 1979, he was the leader of the PSOE's branch in Madrid. This group was called the Madrilenian Socialist Federation. He helped guide the party's work in the Madrid region.

Serving Madrid

In 1979, Alonso Puerta ran for the Madrid City Council. He was elected and became a city councillor. This meant he helped make decisions for the city of Madrid. He served in this role from April 1979 until October 1981.

Moving to United Left

After his time with the PSOE, Alonso Puerta decided to join a different political group. He became a member of United Left. This is another political party in Spain.

European Parliament Member

One of his most important roles was as a member of the European Parliament. This parliament works for all the countries in the European Union. He served there for a long time, from 1987 until 2004. In this role, he helped make decisions that affected many countries across Europe.
