Exploring Alta Vista

Alta Vista is a unique spot in northern Missouri. It's known for its peaceful, rural setting. The name "Alta Vista" actually means "high view" in Spanish, which makes sense because of where it's located!

Where is Alta Vista?

This community sits on a high area, like a ridge, looking over Grindstone Creek to its east. A road called Missouri Route 6 goes right through Alta Vista, making it easy to find. If you travel just two miles west along Route 6, you'll reach the town of Weatherby.

A Look Back: Alta Vista's History

Alta Vista was first planned and settled way back in 1865. It was given its name because of its high location, offering great views of the surrounding area. Imagine what it must have been like in the 1800s!

A post office was opened in Alta Vista in that very same year, 1865. This was an important part of the community, helping people send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the area for many years before it finally closed its doors in 1905.
