Altzomoni facts for kids
Altzomoni is a tall volcanic mountain peak located in the State of Mexico, a part of Mexico. It stands between two famous volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Ixtaccíhuatl. This area is known as the northern part of the Paso de Cortés, which is a mountain pass.
Altzomoni rises about 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level. This makes it a very high point in the landscape. The peak is also located inside the beautiful Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park. This park helps protect the natural environment and wildlife in the area.
Why is Altzomoni Important?
Altzomoni is a significant spot for several reasons. Many people who want to climb the nearby Ixtaccíhuatl volcano use Altzomoni as a starting point or base camp. It's a good place to prepare for the challenging climb.
The mountain is also easy to spot because of a very large television tower on its peak. This tower is used by a company called Televisa. It helps send television signals to cities like Puebla and Cuernavaca, so people can watch their favorite shows.
Besides television, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (which is a big university in Mexico) has an observatory on Altzomoni. This observatory helps scientists study the atmosphere and learn more about our planet's air and weather.
Television Broadcasts from Altzomoni
The large tower on Altzomoni is home to several digital television stations. Even though these stations mainly serve the cities of Puebla and Cuernavaca, and the state of Tlaxcala, their official broadcast licenses are linked to Altzomoni.
Here are the main digital TV stations that broadcast from this tower:
- XEX-TDT (broadcasting on channel 42)
- XHTM-TDT (broadcasting on channel 36)
- XHATZ-TDT (broadcasting on channel 47)
These stations also have special digital equipment located at Televisa's main tower in Puebla. This setup helps them send clear television signals to many homes in the region.
