Education and Career
Alvany Rocha-Caridi earned her highest university degree, a Ph.D., in 1978 from Rutgers University. Her main teacher and guide for this work was Nolan Wallach.
After her Ph.D., she continued her research as a postdoctoral scholar. This means she did more advanced studies and research at several universities. These included the University of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Rutgers.
Later, she started working at Baruch College, which is part of the City University of New York (CUNY). In 1990, she also joined the faculty of the CUNY Graduate Center. There, she has helped lead the mathematics program as an executive officer.
Recognition
In 2012, Alvany Rocha-Caridi was honored as one of the very first fellows of the American Mathematical Society. Being a fellow means you are recognized as a top expert and leader in the field of mathematics.
