Amagá (pronounced ama-GAH) is a town and a municipality in Antioquia Department, Colombia. A municipality is like a local government area. It is part of the Southwestern Antioquia region. This area was once well-known for its coal and iron ore. It also had some of the first iron factories. Belisario Betancur, who later became the President of Colombia, was born in Amagá. In 2015, about 29,555 people lived there.
Cool Places to See
The Forge (known as La Ferrería in Spanish) is a very old and important place in Amagá. This factory made the first steel in the Antioquia region. It worked from 1864 until 1931. Today, its old buildings are a special place called a Rural National Monument. There is also a popular tourist spot called "El viaducto," which means "the path."
