This factory produces well-known tequilas like "Tequila Herradura" and "Tequila Jimador." It provides many jobs for the people living in Amatitán and the nearby communities.

The Municipality of Amatitán

The town of Amatitán is the administrative center for the "Municipio de Amatitán." This municipality includes the town itself and several smaller communities. Some of these communities are Santiaguito, Villa de Cuerámbaro, Chome, La Mata, La Conchilla, El Amarrilo, Agua Fría, and Santa Rosa.

Life and Economy

The economy in Amatitán and the areas around it depends a lot on making tequila. Because of this, farmers here mostly grow the agave plant. Agave is the special plant used to produce tequila.

During this time, most residents also grow corn, which needs more water than agave. Farmers mostly rely on rainwater to water their fields, as there isn't much artificial irrigation.

Some people in Amatitán also raise cattle and other farm animals. These animals are mainly for local food consumption. The people here mostly live a rural lifestyle. Most residents are Catholic. Some people travel to Guadalajara every day or week for work.
