Amatlán de los Reyes is a small town and area (called a municipality) in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It's located about 105 miles (170 kilometers) south of Xalapa, which is the capital city of Veracruz. The municipality covers an area of about 148.9 square kilometers (57.5 square miles). Where is Amatlán de los Reyes?
The municipality of Amatlán de los Reyes has neighbors all around it!
- To the north, it shares borders with the areas of Córdoba and Atoyac.
- To the east, it's next to Atoyac again and also Yanga.
- To the south, you'll find Cuichapa Municipality.
- And to the west, it borders Córdoba Municipality.
What Does Amatlán de los Reyes Produce?
Farmers in Amatlán de los Reyes grow important crops. The main products from this area are maize (which is also known as corn) and beans. These crops are a big part of the local economy and food supply.
The Old Temple of the Gentleman of the Sanctuary
One of the most interesting places in Amatlán de los Reyes is the Temple of the Gentleman of the Sanctuary. This beautiful church was built a long time ago, in the 1700s!
When you look at the main entrance, you'll notice some cool features:
- There are tall, grooved pillars called "fluted pilasters."
- You can see carvings of a special crown (a tiara) and keys.
- There are also small spaces called "niches" between the pillars.
The very top of the entrance has a unique wavy shape with three round decorations in the middle. These decorations have carvings of an angel. There's also a window with a wavy shape, surrounded by lots of plant designs.
