Discover Amberg's History
The first person to settle permanently in what is now Amberg was Warren Buckman. He arrived in 1883 and set up a trading post near the Pike River. Charles Dahl, a railroad surveyor, followed him in 1884.
How Amberg Got Its Name
The community's post office first opened in 1884 and was called Pike. Later, its name was changed to Amberg. This new name honored William Amberg, a businessman from Chicago. He started granite quarries in the area, which were important for the local economy.
