The Story Behind the Album
Pete Seeger chose all the songs for this album from a book. This book was called American Folk Songs For Children. It was published in 1948 by his stepmother, Ruth Crawford Seeger. Her book included the musical notes for the songs.
The album also came with special notes for parents and teachers. These notes helped them understand the songs better. They included all the song lyrics. They also suggested fun activities to do with each song. The album was re-released in 2000. This newer version by Smithsonian Folkways had even more songs!
