The Amherst Center for Russian Culture is a special place at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. It was created in 1991 thanks to a very generous gift from a person named Thomas P. Whitney. He donated a huge collection of Russian books, handwritten papers (called manuscripts), old magazines (periodicals), and other interesting items.

This Center is especially known for its collection of works by and about Russian emigres. These are people who left Russia to live in other countries. Later on, other important gifts of materials came from Dmitri Tarasenkov and George Ivask.

What You Can Find at the Center

The Amherst Center for Russian Culture has a special gallery. This gallery displays more than 50 pieces of Russian art. These artworks were also part of the collection that Thomas P. Whitney gave to the college. It's a great place to learn about Russian history and art!
