Early Life and Challenges

Amina Azimi was born in Afghanistan in the 1980s. When she was 11 years old, a rocket hit her home. This happened during the Afghan Civil War. Sadly, she lost her right leg because of this accident.

Many people in Afghanistan have disabilities. Amina's injury meant she joined this large group. After her injury, it was hard for her to go back to school. She also faced unfair treatment when she tried to find a job. This unfair treatment is called discrimination.

Fighting for Rights

Because of her own experiences, Amina decided to help others. She became a strong voice for disabled women in Afghanistan. She wanted to make sure they were treated fairly.

In 2007, Amina started a group called the Women with Disabilities Advocacy Committee (WAAC). This group worked to speak up for women with disabilities. Later, in 2011, she created another organization. It was called Empowering Women with Disabilities (EWD).

Awards and Radio Work

Amina's hard work was recognized. In 2012, she won the N-Peace Award. This award honored her as an Emerging Peace Champion. It showed that her efforts were making a big difference.

Amina also used radio to share her message. She was a journalist and presenter for a radio show. The show was called Qahir-e-Qahraman. On this program, she talked about stopping discrimination. She especially focused on people who had been hurt by landmines.

Her radio program received support from different groups. These included the UNDP and the UN Mine Action Center for Afghanistan. Today, Amina works for the Afghan Landmine Survivors' Organisation (ALSO). She continues to help people who have been affected by landmines.
