The Start of Ample Hills
Ample Hills opened its first ice cream shop in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, in 2011. It was a huge hit! They sold 130 gallons of ice cream in just four days. This showed how popular their ice cream was.
Growing Bigger
After its first shop, Ample Hills grew into a chain. They opened many stores in New York City. At one point, they even had locations in Disney World and Los Angeles. People loved their creative flavors and the fun atmosphere of their shops.
Challenges and Changes
In March 2020, the company faced some tough times. Ample Hills had to file for bankruptcy. This happened because of money problems from their factory in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
New Owners and Closures
After filing for bankruptcy, another company called Schmitt Industries bought Ample Hills. They paid $1 million for it. Meanwhile, the original founders, Brian Smith and Jackie Cuscuna, started a new ice cream shop called "the Social" in March 2021. However, Schmitt Industries later closed all Ample Hills locations on December 19, 2022. This was due to problems with paying rent and other costs.
A Fresh Start
Ample Hills reopened in June 2023. The original owners, Brian Smith and Jackie Cuscuna, bought the company back. This gave the ice cream company another chance. However, by late 2023, the founders had left the company again. Ample Hills continues to operate today.
