Amy Elizabeth Duggan (born June 11, 1979) is an Australian former soccer player. She was also known by her maiden name, Amy Taylor. After playing professional soccer, she became a well-known person in Australian media.
Amy Duggan's Soccer Journey
Amy Taylor grew up in Canberra, Australia. She started playing soccer at a young age. She played for several local clubs, like Tuggeranong United FC. She played almost 100 games for the Canberra Eclipse. This was in the Women's National Soccer League. She also played professionally for the Hampton Roads Piranhas in the US.
Amy was a member of the Australia women's national soccer team. This team is famously known as "The Matildas". She played as a defender in over thirty international matches. She joined the team in 1997 when she was just 17. This was only six years after she started playing soccer!
In 1997, she scored her first international goal. This happened during the 1997 Women's U.S. Cup. She was a substitute player for the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. She was also an alternate player for the 2004 Olympics tournament.
Amy was known as a very determined defender. She was also a combative tackler. However, she faced many ankle injuries. She had two surgeries to fix them. She stopped playing international soccer in 2005. She then started a full-time career in media.
Life After Soccer: A Media Star
After retiring from soccer, Amy joined WIN Television in Australia. She became a presenter on a fishing show. It was called Fishing Australia. Later, she became the sports presenter for WIN News. She became very popular there.
In 2008, Amy co-hosted a TV show called Football Superstar. It was a soccer-reality program on FOX8. She continued her role on WIN News. She also hosted and commentated for ABC's W-League matches. The W-League is a national women's soccer competition.
From 2015 to 2018, she hosted and commentated for Fox Sports. In 2019, she joined Optus Sport. She covered the 2019 Women's World Cup for them.
In August 2016, Amy started hosting a music program. It was called Chilled Sundays on Wollongong's i98FM. More recently, in October 2023, she began presenting on ABC Illawarra radio. She hosts a show on Friday mornings.
