Aníbal Ruiz Leites (born December 30, 1942 – died March 10, 2017) was a famous football coach from Uruguay. He was known for his smart strategies in the game.

Aníbal Ruiz's Football Career

Aníbal Ruiz had a long and successful career in football. He started as a player, often playing as a Midfielder. He played for several clubs in South America.

Coaching Achievements

After playing, Aníbal Ruiz became a highly respected football coach. His last coaching job was with Universidad San Martín in Peru.

He achieved many great things as a coach. In 1991, he helped Olimpia Asunción win the Supercopa Sudamericana. This is a very important football tournament in South America.

One of his biggest achievements was leading the Paraguayan national football team. He guided them to the 2006 World Cup, which is a huge global football event.

Coaching Style and Nickname

Aníbal Ruiz was known for his special coaching style. He focused on strong defense and making sure his team played in an organized way. This approach helped his teams succeed.

Because of his success, he won the South American Coach of the Year award in 2005. People often called him by his nickname, Maño.

On March 10, 2017, Aníbal Ruiz was working as an assistant coach for Puebla. He was at the Luis "Pirata" Fuente Stadium in Veracruz, Mexico.

Sadly, he passed away suddenly due to a heart attack. He was on his way to the hospital at the time.
