Ana María Rodríguez (born February 27, 1958) is a writer from South America who creates books for children about science and health. One of her books, Edward Jenner: Conqueror of Smallpox, was chosen as a "Best Book" in 2006 by Science Books & Films. This is a publication from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Sometimes, she uses a different name for her writing, called Mariana Relós.

Early Life and Education
Ana María Rodríguez was born on February 27, 1958, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She grew up in Caracas, Venezuela. She earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Simón Bolívar University in 1979. She then received a master's degree and a Ph.D. in biology and immunology from the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research.
In 1987, Rodríguez moved to the United States. There, she continued her advanced studies. She did postdoctoral research at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
Her Writing Career
After finishing her studies, Ana María Rodríguez taught college students. She also volunteered at the Boston Museum of Science. She helped with their SCIENCE-BY-MAIL program for children.
In 1995, she started taking online courses to learn how to write for children. By 1999, she decided to become a full-time writer. Her very first article for kids was called "The Kids Who Fought Smallpox". It was published in Highlights for Children magazine in May 2000. She used her pen name, Mariana Relós, for this article. It even won an award!
In 2001, Rodríguez completed another writing course. By 2003, she became a teacher at the Institute of Children's Literature. That same year, she published her first book for children, called Fires.
